Tennis - American teens Coco Gauff and Cary McNally have been awarded a wild card into the women's doubles event at the US Open which begins in New York City on Monday. The duo won the US Open junior doubles title last year and recently combined to win the doubles title at the Citi Open in Washington to win their first ever WTA level event.

That was the first time that the two players had combined together to play a WTA Tour event. Neither of them had won a WTA level doubles match prior to the Washington event. With wins at the US Open junior event and the Washington WTA event, the duo will have a chance in New York to continue their unbeaten streak as a doubles team.

The 15-year-old Gauff has become a household name after she defeated Venus Williams en route to reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon losing to eventual champion Simona Halep - making her the youngest player to win a main draw match at Wimbledon in nearly two decades.

She has also received a wild card into the women's singles event in New York as has McNally. While McNally has not had the same kind of attention and breakthrough as Gauff, she did reach the semi-finals in the singles event at Washington.

Gauff is currently ranked No. 141 in singles and doubles on the WTA Tour while the 17-year-old McNally is ranked No. 121 in singles and No. 111 in doubles on the WTA Tour. Speaking in Washington, Gauff commented about the possibility of them entering the US Open together, ' I honestly believe that we can [win].

We can do whatever we want when we put our minds to it. I think to be honest the way we’re playing we can go as far as we want.“
